thanks pam,yes the bird figure is open.there is app. 3cm.space in between.And the piece is compleyely ceramic.the black piece is a flat slab,the white section is made of two pieces of slab attached (while wet) to each other.and the black shadow under the bird is painted in between the two white slabs by black engobe (again while wet).

This is fantastic...Is the black ceramic also? I can't quite tell of the space through the figure (dove) is open or a glaze?
